Imported US Model 1850 Staff & Field Officers Sword
American Civil War
33.5" single edged spear point blade with 24" stopped median fuller. Blade 1.1" wide at ricasso. 39.25" in overall length with a 5.5" gilt cast brass hilt with US in the face of the guard. Grooved wood grip covered in shagreen with 13 wraps of multi-strand wire. Blade etched with floral, martial and patriotic motifs. Not marked as to maker, importer or retailer but the spine is etched IRON PROOF. The sword is accompanied by a browned steel scabbard with heavily chased gilt brass mounts.

Condition
Fine. Blade retains some polish and frosty appearance to the etching, which is mostly intact. Blade with scattered surface oxidation, discoloration and freckling. Blade to hilt junction is tight, brass with much of the gilt intact. Throat washer present. Grip wrap with some light wear. Scabbard with much of the brown intact, showing some scattered oxidation and minor surface roughness and with some of the gilt on the mounts.
